Help with GnuCash! Why is there a “Rebate” column in the Expense account on GnuCash?

Once a year I put in a transaction to zero the cash account, because I
really do not have $40K under the mattress.
I put that expenditure against Expenditure:unspecified and promise
myself to keep a better count next year.
