Widening the Balance column

The only solution I've received that works is to double-click on the
balance column. This then widens the column sufficiently to display all
existing characters. I've followed Derek's suggestion but all this does
is to return all column widths to what they were before the start of
the procedure.

This is a bug that was reported at the end of last year. See
