By "hang" I mean unresponsive - the little progress bar in the
report window status bar lower right shows something, typically
goes about halfway across, then nothing further.

CPU usage by GnuCash is at 99% if nothing else is needing much
CPU; an hourglass shows when hovering mouse over any existing
GnuCash window.

Nothing can be done in GnuCash, except to close it, whereupon
Windows says the program is not responding and I confirm it
should kill it. Then I delete the lock file so I can run GnuCash
again.

The mentioned bug 645273 reports very different symptoms.
Nonetheless I fooled with default browser setting, seemed to
make no difference.

That made me realized that maybe I just need to update since I'm
on XP SP2, which has IE6, pretty old - went through an involved
process to end up with XP SP3 and IE8, and now the reports no
longer hang. They may appear to hang, showing no progress and
being unresponsive for minutes, but each of the previously
mentioned ones will now complete.
