It is not mandatory, but it is required that if you do NOT start it from
the stock/mutual account then you MUST start it from an account with the
correct common-currency that the stock transaction will use.

Note that I've never tried creating it from a non-stock account; I find
it easier to work in the stock account where I can set both the 'amount'
and 'value' on all splits simultaneously without a popup.
