gnucash help + getting rid of unneeded files

They are backup files, only needed if you detect a problem with your data.

If you go to
Edit --> Preferences --> General
you can have GnuCash automatically delete the log files older than some
number of days (such as 30 days), or you can have GnuCash keep them
forever, or never retain them.
