There is no version of libxml2 available that has this bug fixed.  I only filed the bug report recently.

I also changed GnuCash to avoid the problem by unzipping the file itself, but this change is not available in 2.4 and may not be backported.  It will be available in 2.6, of course, and in the meantime you can either turn off compression or just uncompress the file manually if you run into it again.  There is a less than 1% chance that any particular file will have this problem.  That's why it took a while to fix.  No one wanted to send a file with their financial data to use as a test case, so we had to wait until it happened to someone who could fix it using their own data to test with.
