Gnucash query

Another possible cause:
when you change transactions, gnucash will ask you if you want to save the changes. You can 
confirm or cancel this dialog and choose not to ask this question again.

It's possible you have answered this question with cancel while you also confirmed not to ask 
this question again. In this case GnuCash will no longer allow you to edit an existing 
transaction and at the same time not ask about it again.

You can revert this somewhat awkward situation by resetting your answer to this question, 
which you can do via Actions -> Reset Warnings...
