There are two things here.  Yes, it is possible to pay multiple invoices
(or bills) with a single payment, and indeed GnuCash has always done this.
 HOWEVER it does it in a FIFO basis.  Up through 2.4 you could select a
single invoice to put at the front of that FIFO, but payments after that
would apply to the oldest invoice after the selected one.  In 2.6 there is
a new feature to allow you to select multiple invoices to pay "out of
order".
