moving to sql backend

Hi!

I just used the pre-built GC for Windows 7 and it supported MySQL.
I also built GC from source under Ubuntu (GC v2.5.4 git under Linux hvs1-Linux64 3.2.0-52-generic). It took a while, but I'm not the "RTFM" sort-of guy. I had the MySQL server running under Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux as a slave (mirror). I like it because I can backup my db and restore as needed and I can issue SQL code to do global search and replace commands. It's a sharp sword, so I only do trivial mods. One false move and your database entity relationships map is shot. I tread lightly. I love it because I wanted to learn more about SQL, mirroring, and database recovery and GnuCash provides this along with my tracking my home finances. (It replaced Microsoft Money while Microsoft was pulling-out. I wanted the flexibility [freedom/power] to shoot myself in the foot if I got reckless with my personal finance accounting [data admin/management].)

MySQL support seems pretty good still, since Oracle's MySQL Workbench 6.0 CE works great for me!

BTW, it's a bit ironic about XML because I subscribed to the idea of electronic design specs being defined in XML, and I still do.

I'm personally more comfortable with MySql than with xml and also I'm
hoping maybe for more reporting flexibility out of mysql. We'll see.
