Note that the latest versions of Xcode require that you explicitly install command-line tools 
from Preferences:
* open Xcode
* Select Xcode>Preferences
* Select the Downloads tab (the tab-bar looks like a toolbar).
* Select Command-line tools.

Note as well that Apple just released Xcode 5 a couple of days ago and I haven't yet had time 
to test it on 10.8, only on the 10.9 developer preview, and not with gnc-fq-update.
