can't click on buttons or controls (gnc 2.6.3-1 Mac OS X)

I have installed GnuCash 2.6.3-1 Intel build on OS X 10.8.5.  None of
the controls seem to work or respond to mouse click events.  Has anyone
else seen similar issues ?

I recall something similar a long time ago -- something to do with gtk
libraries if my memory serves me correctly, and a rebuild of the app was
required.
