That's a bit painful. A better work-around is to find a locale that matches the
language you want to use and is supported by the C library. en_GB is a good choice
for English speakers who prefer to see "colour" instead of "color" and so on.

Once you've picked your locale, enter the following at a Terminal prompt:
  defaults write -app Gnucash AppleLocale en_GB
substituting whatever locale you've selected for en_GB. Then you'll be able to
use GnuCash as usual.
