Sorry, as I said, I don?t use this feature, so I don?t have any experience of setting it up.

What you need to do is to attract the attention of a member of the List who does use the electronic banking feature, and who has the time to do some hand-holding.

You?re more likely to get this attention if you specify in detail what operating system and GnuCash version you?re using, and what you?ve already done to help yourself along the way.

Unlike me, most GnuCash users aren?t retired and have busy lives - a clearly formulated question is more likely to get a clear answer!

I don't think this is limited (or new) to 2.6; I'm pretty sure this has
*always* been the case.

Looks like your distribution's installation of AqBanking didn't include
the MT940/DTAUS module.  You should talk to Linux Mint about it.

Just to be clear here, unless you are using the Business functions you
SHOULD NOT use an account of type A/R and A/P.  Those account types are
not meant for user input and you are likely to shoot yourself in the
foot if you choose to use that.

Instead, just use an account of type "Asset".  You can still *name* the
account "A/R" if you wish.  Just *never* use the A/Receivable or
A/Payable account types for manual transactions.  Never.

You do not mention which version of GnuCash you are using or the OS of
your computer.  There may be bugs in any version newer than 2.4.13.

Derek,

Thanx for the reply.

The problem is (might be);
I did completely remove (via Synaptic) the 2.4.13 version from the
originally installed Linux Mint repo's.
I did install GC 2.6.0 from the GetDeb.net Repo.
I don't specifically use AqBanking, I download my MT940 directly from my
Dutch bank via a Web Browser not GC.
When I try to start the AqBanking setup wizard from GC GC crashes, so
you might be on to something, but thusfar it is not solving my problem.

I agree that initially it might be a Linux Mint issue but in back view
of the above I'm still a bit lost. On the LM website I can't find any GC
issues like I'm experiencing.

Since today I installed (via Synaptic) the following packages;

aqbanking-tools
libaqbanking-plugings-libgwenhywfar60

This resolved my problem. Thanx a million for pointing me to a not
before found solution. So I don't have to talk to LM, I just needed to
talk to you. Thanx again for pointing me to this direction.

Warm regards,

Erix

After you set up your Users and Accounts in the AQBanking setup dialog, you must continue
to the third screen in the Online Banking Setup Assistant and associate each online
account with a GnuCash account. The Online Actions menu is enabled only for account
registers that are so associated, never for the Accounts or General Ledger tabs.

If you passed a bad password to the bank and they still sent you transactions, that?s
a problem with the bank, not with GnuCash. If it was my bank account, I?d close it
immediately and find a bank with functioning online security.

I am afraid some of the responses you received to this question took you
down a "rabbit hole." I believe I understand what happened and I hope to
clear things up. If it doesn't I hope someone will set ME straight!

When you see two "Balance Sheet" reports, one labeled "eguile" it means the
developers have included both the old "Balance Sheet" report AND a new,
"prettier" or "easier to edit" report that uses the eguile utility. They
should function similarly (as far as the numbers that appear on them),
however one or the other might suit you better.

Explanation: GnuCash uses a programming language called Scheme to create
its reports. (GnuCash uses Scheme several places, but we're just talking
about reports here.) The utility that GnuCash uses uses to interpret Scheme
code is called Guile. Someone created a special Guile "preprocessor" called
eguile that simplifies the creation of "pretty" or "easier to maintain"
reports. GnuCash developers chose it because eguile knows how to use HTML,
which is the "language" used by web browsers to make web pages look nice,
and HTML is more familiar to more people than plain Scheme code. SO an
eguile report should be easier to make into a nicer web page, which may
give you more options both in its creation and in using the final result.

I hope I didn't botch that explanation TOO terribly.

I downloaded the Dmg , copied the same to the applications folder and clicked the Gnucash.app. As I had not deleted the older app, it named itself as Gnucash-2. I closed off the dbus-daemon file as well. When I click the app it opens and immediately closes. I am able to open the older version app on the application sub folder.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Probably https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721260
Try opening /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and running
defaults write -app Gnucash AppleLocale en_GB

Hi Tommy

What a wonderful breath of fresh air.  You have made my day.  Wel explained,
and if I may say so, in a sympathetic way,  to a novice like me.  I have to
emphasize my appreciation.  Wish there were more people like you.

Tanks again and have a great day.

Chris

I am afraid some of the responses you received to this question took you
down a "rabbit hole." I believe I understand what happened and I hope to
clear things up. If it doesn't I hope someone will set ME straight!

When you see two "Balance Sheet" reports, one labeled "eguile" it means the
developers have included both the old "Balance Sheet" report AND a new,
"prettier" or "easier to edit" report that uses the eguile utility. They
should function similarly (as far as the numbers that appear on them),
however one or the other might suit you better.

Explanation: GnuCash uses a programming language called Scheme to create its
reports. (GnuCash uses Scheme several places, but we're just talking about
reports here.) The utility that GnuCash uses uses to interpret Scheme code
is called Guile.
SO an
eguile report should be easier to make into a nicer web page, which may give
you more options both in its creation and in using the final result.

I hope I didn't botch that explanation TOO terribly.

I think that the US IRS is much more likely to accept a write-off if the
stock is actually sold.  My broker bought back the stock that he had
originally sold me that later tanked for a few cents a share.  That
makes a clean report from the brokerage house to support your tax return.
