How to upgrade, Win 7 from 2.4.11 to 2.6.3

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit SP1.

I am fairly OK with most computery stuff but when it comes to databases, I
am well outside my comfort zone!

I have found various guidance on upgrading but it all relates to older
versions and seems to be version specific as well, leaving me unsure how to
actually do an upgrade from 2.4.11 to 2.6.3

Do I simply install 2.6.3 over the top of 2.4.11?

Do I need to install and then save my files in an intermediate version first
before going to 2.6.3?

Do I need to uninstall my old version first or delete any folders or get rid
of any registry keys or ...?

Do I need to move my data files somewhere safe or do anything else first?

Love to have the definitive step by step answer before I risk that double
click to start the install

One more question - after I have started the install going, do I need to set
up any accounts or anything else, other than telling it where my datafiles
are, or will it just extract everything it needs from the data files?

Many thanks
