Balance goes missing

I'm sure this is something I'm doing wrong, but not sure what because it seems to happen randomly.  I'm learning to the investment account type by trying to track a 529 plan.  The account type is setup as mutual fund.  Sporadically, I can enter a transaction where it will not show the new account balance in the last column of the register.  It also does not show on the main account page.  The other account transferring to or from shows it's balance ok, even if it is a transfer between two mutual fund accounts.  I think the resolution has been to shutdown GC and restart.  Am I doing something wrong?
