Want to use both a mac and a windows machine for the same data file

My office has a windows 7 pc but my travel machine is a macbook air.  I downloaded gnu cash on the mac but was unable to open or import the data file created with the windows version.  Is there a way to pass data file back and forth between mac and windows?
