how to hide multiple accounts

You could make them child accounts of a new parent which you could give a
descriptive name to like 'Unused Accounts'. You would, of course, need to
assign those accounts to that parent which would mean editing them, which
then might be considered 'tedious'.
They would at least all be grouped together so you could collapse the tree
of accounts you didn't want to see all the time...
There is no way of selecting multiple accounts and editing them together.
