The Macintosh Migration Assistant should do it all for you.  You can use it to, essentially, make your new desktop (including all your user files in all your directories) look like your old desktop.  This link

gives the details for OS X Mavericks.  As far as I know the information also applies to the newest system, OS X Yosemite.
