I can't seem to find the details at the moment but I suspect this is
an X issue rather than gnucash.  I can't find the right keywords to
search for in launchpad.  See if you get the same symptoms running
other apps, gedit, firefox, nautilus, whatever.  Try a few and see if
any of them show the problem.
