Is clicking "open anyway" the preferred method?

GnuCash terminated abnormally once on me after I left it open for some 
time.  I confirmed there were no other instances running and simply went 
to the directory where the GnuCash data file is stored and deleted the 
lock file.  I was able to open GnuCash after that without issue.  At 
that time I was using GnuCash 2.6.1 in Xubuntu 14.04.
