Migration of data

This question gets asked a lot, so much so that there is a bit of the FAQ
that deals with it:

http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_import_my_data_from_Quickbooks.28TM.29.3F

I've only ever dealt with the migration from Quicken to Gnucash, and found
that though I was able to bring in all of my years and years of data, it was
a lot of work. The result of that was a very large data file with a lot of
pretty useless old data transactions. For example, why would I ever care
about a stock I bought 15 years ago and held for 2 years before selling? I
don't.

What I finally ended up doing is what lots of folks here will suggest. Run
the old program, and start up a fresh database with Gnucash. Put only as
much data in the new file as you need to, so cost basis calculations and
balances on accounts are in agreement. Once I'd run both for a while in
parallel, and things agreed, I stopped using the old program.

Good luck, hope you don't have too much trouble with things.
