Where does Gnucash Save itself when it closes

My guess is that at some point you opened the backup file, and then you
did a File -> Save As to your USB drive.  When you do that (File -> Save
As) gnucash remembers that new location as your data file location and
that will be the location that gets opened the next time gnucash starts.

Also not that on Mac clicking a Data File does NOT cause gnucash to open
that data file!!!  The file intents don't work on Mac.  So what happens
is that GnuCash will open, but opens the "last opened" file, not
necessarily the one you clicked on.
