Multi-column report or similar with different style sheets

A multi-column report has a style sheet that as far as I can see always 
overrides the style sheets of the reports in the contents.

Presuming I'm not missing something obvious can anyone think of a way of 
having (say) two balance sheets next to each other each with their own 
style sheet.  I'd like this year and last year to have different 
background colours for example.
