What is Scheduled Transaction 'Pending' status for?

Could someone please explain how one would use Pending status with
Scheduled Transactions (SX)? I've tried it, read the Guide and Help, and
it still doesn't make sense to me. I'm using GnuCash 2.6.9 on Linux.

Suppose I have a weekly repeating SX, which is due today, Sunday. When
'Since Last Run...' shows it, I change its status to Pending, because I'm not
ready to do it yet, and click OK. The SX will now stay in Pending status
until I am ready for it. Tomorrow, Monday, I'm ready to go, so I change it
from Pending to To-Create and click OK. What I don't understand is that the
transaction is recorded with next Sunday's date, not the past Sunday when
it was due.

I understand that I can use Ignore status to get it to skip this week's
occurrence. I don't understand why Pending also skips this week's occurrence.

I must be using it wrong. Can anyone explain this to me?
