Jan,
Liz noted earlier on the thread that this button creates a balancing transaction against ORPHAN-XXX (where XXX is your local currency). This is one of two generic "Oops" accounts that GnuCash creates under varying circumstances (the other is IMBALANCE-XXX). 
As for renaming the button/function, that may be advisable, but I defer to the developers on that.

If it does what I think it does, perhaps it should be labeled "Force Balance."

I'm assuming it is intended to correct for sloppy bookkeeping by creating an entry that makes your books and the bank's agree. If so, where does it get/take the money? Does it create an "Errors" account or something similar?
