OFX files are text files that can be viewed with any text editor.
GnuCash does not hide them, but it does not have a viewer either. You
are correct that it has logic to prevent importing transactions more
than once, but that is not intentionally hiding them, although it can
make it difficult to see whether it is working correctly.
There is a specification for OFX files that you can find by Googling
OFX, which would help you to interpret the contents of an OFX file.
