Learning, need clarification

Thanks Liz. After reviewing that link I understand way more than I did. 
Turns out I used the MinGw program when I was tinkering with Android
applications.  I will study more about GNU operating system and might repair
my old computer and install one of the Lunix OS on it to test. 

In the meantime, I found out how where to unsubscribe from emails, so I sent
in a request to get on the mailing list, and then I have bookmarked the page
where "Turn Off Email Delivery" button is once I start receiving them, or
get an email that says I am on the list.

Guess you could say I am a slow learner.
