Freeze on startup at splash screen (ubuntu)

I am having intermittent problems with starting Gnucash v 2.6.3 on
Ubuntu 14.10.

It normally starts up quickly but sometimes will hang at the splash
screen during 'gnucash/app-utils' phase. When this happens I can kill
the process and try again but the same thing will happen. Seems the only
way to resolve is to log off and back in again. If there is some more
logging information I can provide that would be helpful just let me know
how to do so -- thank you..
