I wasn't suggesting switching tools to produce (raw) reports.
I was suggesting switching tools to provide:
1) Full power of an editor to add text, notes, rearrange portions, etc.
(the "word processing" part of the task)
2) Full power of a "print compositor" do things like special fonts,
kerning, etc. all the way to producing print shop ready material (in
case being printed at higher quality than home/small office computer
printers.
Since at least in my case, "1" would be necessary. Why should I ask the
gnucash developers to do the work to create THAT degree of functionality
when perfectly good editors already exist.
Back in my working days designing/programming financial reports is one
of the things I did. While not a LISP person, I can at least read it, so
I COULD have written the SCHEME to produce the (two column) special
reports showing adjacent periods as is normal for nonprofit reporting.
But I'd STILL end up having to export so I could use an editor to add
text, notes, make sure any page breaks when printed didn't occur at bad
places, etc. So why bother with the special report when the later
editor step can do that part of it too.
