See if the following works for you -
Your GnuCash data file has the name and location assigned by the person
making the initial GnuCash installation; it typically has a '.gnucash'
extension (eg: filename.gnucash).
Since GnuCash opens the last opened file by default, a method to get to
the file itself is to open it in GnuCash and use 'file/save as' to
assign a preferred name and save location, such as your desktop in this
case.
To move the file to your new machine, send the GnuCash file saved to
your desktop to portable media, such as a USB drive. Insert the
portable media into the new machine, and open the file in your new
GnuCash installation using the 'file/open' facility. Then use
'file/save as' to store the data in Home/Documents/GnuCash (or wherever
suits your preference). Or; move the file from the portable media to
the new machine first, and then open it in GnuCash using file/open.
