Search and Replace

That's what I do, except I don't export/import.I close GC, dump my SQL database, use SQL commands to do global search & replace. Mostly I do Description, Memo, Notes, but sometimes accounts. The last one is difficult because MySQL doesn't know about the ERD, hence my database backup step! (I corrupted my database several times in the beginning, but I haven't recently. :-> I've learned to be more careful so I wouldn't have to restore the database, wasting 5 minutes, though without the backup, it could be hours.)
I would not recommend it, unless you're comfortable with SQL and backup & restore of the GC database.

I don't know if the following would work since I have not tried it.
Export your GC data to a MySQL database. Use appropriate SQL statements
to make the desired changes. Then import back into GC.
