GnuCash (Mac) crashing when trying to import QIF file

I'm trying to move (from Moneydance) to GnuCash 2.6.10 on an Intel Mac with
OS X 10.11.2. Unfortunately GnuCash is always crashing during the QIF file
import (into a fresh GnuCash file without any content). The QIF Import
Assistant gets to the window "Accounts and stock holdings" and then GnuCash
crashes (quits without any error message) when I click onto Forward.

Is there anything that can be done to get this working?
