Hi,

You could use sub-accounts for your "restricted funds"

Bank:Checking (contains most stuff)
+--- CameraFund (your reserved gift goes into here, and you spend
from here)
           +--- HoldayFund

The individual account registers will show their respective balances, the CoA
will show the total in the bank, and the total in each restricted sub-account.

Just be aware that you'll need to select the "include subaccounts" in the
reconcile dialogue box, and over time, you could end up with several dormant
sub-accounts (though if you delete one, GC should let you relocate the
restricted txns up into the main bank account register).

HTH,
Maf.
