What version of GnuCash are you running? What's the output of:

$ apt-cache policy gnucash


The error you're seeing LOOKS like a packaging error that existed in
Debian-derived  GnuCash version 2.6.1 (it affects a lot of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
and child distro users because it's still the current version in the
universe repository).
