Inadvertent data file loss

Apparently the fact that you opened a dated file first did matter.  I 
believe this is a known bug specific to the Mac version.  If I'm right, 
you must be using a Mac, and for your own future reference, you're 
definitely not insane for expecting different results when you 
double-click on different files.
