OFX Note Propagation

Rufus,

As the originator of the thread, I think you and I are talking about different things. My original post had to do with the autofill feature that GnuCash uses, which copies the information regarding the OFX transaction from a downloaded transaction (where it belongs) to a manually-entered transaction (where it does not). 

I suspect you are describing the OFX note information that your bank provides in its output. You could check this by examining an OFX file that you download from your bank; if it has the notes there, then that is part of the OFX data from your bank. I don’t think there’s any way for GnuCash to avoid importing that data. 

You could use a text editor or script to remove these data elements from the OFX file before importing. However, that might strip out other functionality—e.g. transaction matching on FITID.
