Reopening Gnucash File

OK. You’re opening backups. Of backups. Of backups (March 16, April 18, April 23, April 26, May 11, and May 20, I believe). That’s what all the appended numbers are.

I believe that originally, you had a file you called “Feb. 12, 2016 gnucash.gnucash” I suspect that your filename (with its period and comma) might befuddle GnuCash, but I am sure if I am wrong, someone will correct me.

Since you’ve been opening backups of backups of backups (etc.) I would suggest doing this one more time to open your most current iteration of the file, and the doing a File->Save As, and saving your file something simple, like “gcdata”. Then exit, and try loading GnuCash again. Your new file should automatically load.

If you continue to have File not found errors, then I would suggest checking whether the filesystem location is valid and active.

If you don’t have errors with the simpler file name, then I would go back to the folder and pack the old files away in a compressed file and hope you never need to open that archive, because those filenames are hecka confusing.

If so, then you should know that each time you start GnuCash, it should automatically open the last file you had open. Therefore, unless you are working with multiple files, you don’t need to locate your data file to get it loaded the next time you open GnuCash. Just open GnuCash, and the file should load.

(I am using ver. 2.6.12) then I get a window that reads "The file file:///media/dick/data/reb68/Striping/BusinessGnuCash/Feb. 12, 2016 gnucash.gnucash.20160316113751.gnucash.20160418150929.gnucash.20160423215032.gnucash.20160426211845.gnucash.20160511141956.gnucash.20160520223415.gnucash could not be found." then I have to go to the files in Dilphin and drill down to the Gnucash Files and look for the latest file to open it.
