A company that uses job-cost accounting might want to treat bills for different jobs as separate accounts even if they came from the same vendor. There might even be different payment rules depending on the nature of the contracts for which the job applies, where a cost-plus contract's bills would be paid first and general overhead (not chargeable to any job) paid last.

A vendor for that company would be very interested in keeping track of payments by his customer's job code.
