Beginners question, confused between real bank accounts and gnucash accounts

Rather than asking gnucash to restructure in a way that is not compatible
with basic accounting principles, what I think would satisfy your needs
is a report that presents the data the way that you have described. This
would be a type of portfolio report. 

I have no idea whether the current reporting capabilities of gnucash can
accommodate this.
