Customer report

Hello all,
I find it odd that I cannot generate a customer or vendor list.
The customer ID has separators in it to differentiate the town they live 
in. I would like to be able to separate specific towns to receive emails 
pertaining to their location.
That and the ability to print updated customer lists.
Has anyone found a solution to this? If so, is there a tutorial for 
dummies that I can go to?
