GnuCash Column Width

I do not have the program open right now but I find that both the long descriptions and the the long account names usually do not fit together.  Double clicking works fine in amount columns but I always adjust the account width manually to get a compromise with the description width.  I have the program set to remember each register setting.  I am using release 2.6.11 or thereabouts d e pending on which computer I am using.
I am surprised that you say that clicking on the account column header changes the sortation because every transaction is in the same account unless you are in the ledger view.  In that view things are different and column widthes are almost meaningless there.

Yes, I read it. In particular, this:> A column can also be resized to fit the data by double clicking in the > column header. If you are referring to the special nature of the Description column, well, I didn't even have the Description column displayed.Example: I have some account names that are longer than the current width of the Accounts column. I double-click the Accounts column header. The width doesn't change, but the tab re-sorts by the account name twice, once for each click. I displayed the Description column and tested again; no difference. I double-clicked on the Description column header. The tab re-sorted twice by Description, and column width did not change. I would expect it to get wider, because I have a lot of blank space to the right of my right-most column.Basically, double-clicks seem not to be detected in the column header on my machine. Double-clicking works elsewhere in GnuCash, though. On 2016-11-20 8:24 AM, Colin Law wrote:> On 20 November 2016 at 12:45, Cheryl Wheeler via gnucash-user > > wrote:>> With the recent discussion of column widths, I decided to try the> feature of double-clicking the column headers on the Accounts tab.> It doesn't work for me at all -- it's the same as single-clicking> twice.
