nomenclatural clarification - parts of a transaction

Ah, I am confused, I see. I'm entering transactions at the bottom of the screen where the end of the register is, while gnucash is changing information at the top of the screen where I'm not paying attention.

So the "notes" field is really singular and only contains 1 note; while there are multiple "memo" fields, each one containing a memo for each split.

I'll have to read the chapter in the guide and see if I can follow along and not get confused.
