LibreOffice is free as in liberty, being released under the Mozilla Public License. Its grandfather, StarOffice, was free as in beer having had a look-but-don’t-touch license; Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle) bought it and released it as OpenOffice under the LGPL. OpenOffice is now under the Apache Foundation umbrella and uses the Apache license.
