I do not think it is possible to make a zero value transaction split line
actually show zeros.

Years ago I set up a special income account that I called 'zComments' [to
make it sort to the bottom] to use as a collector for transactions that
were there just as reminders.   Since then, GnuCash now allows zero value
transactions to exist without a transfer account, but then there is no
collector to help in keeping the comments find-able.

Of course these reminder transactions can include text in the description,
memo and notes fields as needed.
