Steve,

There have been some bugs reported relating mainly to prices being shown in
fractional form, mainly in releases 3.x, that may complicate the internal
price computations.  If you are still having issues, please tell us which
version of GnuCash you are using, your OS, etc.

The way that you described your problem reminded me of a competitive
personal finance product that used to treat mutual funds in a strange way
without a parent brokerage account.  Be sure that you have structured your
fund under a separate brokerage account  as described in the help manual.
