Unless you’re up for learning SQL, there is an easier path if all you want are pretty reports.

You can copy/paste reports to a spreadsheet and manipulate from there.

You can get part of the way to a ‘dashboard’ with the multi-column report. Look into it.

Otherwise, probably an intermediate step would be to use the SQlite backend paired with piecash for your report queries.

Maintaining and setting up a MySQL db is certainly more involved.
