[GNC] How to set a customer "opening balance" for the Customer Report

How does one enter opening balances, *per customer* or *per vendor*?
So far that we’ve figured out, the only method is to enter a payment assigned to Equity:Opening Balances.
While this does accomplish the intended result, it is neither obvious or easily discoverable when first moving to GnuCash.
