[GNC] Having trouble trying to use Gnucash instead of Aplos

here. If you point your browser at the file help.html it will open an
updated version of the help manual. The chapter on Transactions has the
importer documentation at the end. This hasn't yet been accepted for
incorporation into the official GnuCash documentation but it should help
with the importer operation.
