[GNC] Register columns: The balance column is no longer visible

This worked perfectly and I now have the "balance" column back 😊

On second thoughts, rather than spend any more time going down this rabbit burrow from both ends of the internet, your suggestion of a "bulk copy" will be the quickest solution:

(0) Make sure you have a backup of your data and know how to restore it.

(1) Create a "New Cheque" account under the same parent as the broken Cheque account.  Make sure the new account is the same type (eg "Bank") as the old one.

(2) Delete the broken account, and tell Gnucash to move all its transactions to the "New Cheque" account.

(3) Edit the "New Cheque" account and change its description back to the old account.

This should work because, as Adrian pointed out, the column width settings are unique to each account, so the new account should inherit a clean set of columns.
