AFAIK the Ubuntu family is a branch of the Debian family. And Debian has
usually recent GnuCash versions in their Backports repos.
Q1: Offers Ubuntu no backports repos?
If the answer is No, Why?
Perhhaps worth to discuss with the Ubuntu user base?
